New companies are going green everyday by installing renewable energy, updating appliances to be more efficient, and by installing green lighting, just to name a few. Well, sports teams have started making a name for themselves by doing just this as well.
This past week, the Philadelphia Eagles have not only announced that they intend to install a ton of renewable energy, but they will become the first stadium to be able to fully generate all of their electricity. In order to do this, Lincoln Financial Field will become home to 2,500 solar panels, 80 20-foot high wind turbines, and a natural gas and biodiesel generator. Solar Blue of Florida will be the company responsible for installing all the different pieces of the equation. The commissioner of the NFL, Roger Goodell, believes that because sports teams are in the eye of the public, they have a responsibility to do the right thing and share information on how to use less energy and save money. The Eagle’s plan will hopefully reduce their energy costs by 25% in the first year! Any extra energy generated will be sold to the local utility, PECO.
