The 110 MW Crescent Dunes solar energy project, located in Tonopah, Nevada is currently under budget and on track for completion.

This video includes a technology overview, a project update from Brian Painter, SolarReserve Project Site Manager, and an economic impact update. Last month SolarReserve announced a major project milestone at Crescent Dunes: the completion of the molten salt receiver that sits atop the 540 foot solar power tower.
The receiver is the portion of the project that’s based in rocket-science technology. It’s comprised of panels formed by hundreds of alloy tubes which will eventually flow with molten salt for energy absorption and storage. Currently, the heliostat pedestals are being mounted in the “pedestal forest” and heliostats are en route to the assembly line. In the next six months, 10,000 heliostats will be assembled in the heliostat field and testing will begin. Crescent Dunes will be complete this year, and it will be the nation’s first commercial-scale solar power tower facility with energy storage and the largest power plant of its kind in the world! Once constructed, it will also power up to 75,000 homes during peak electricity periods.
