|Streamline Solar Permitting
|There are more than 18,000 municipalities in the U.S. and all of them set their own solar permitting requirements. As a result, solar permitting requirements and costs vary dramatically city by city. Permitting can either be a walk in the park, or a bureaucratic headache.
Groups around the country are working to help streamline the process by encouraging municipalities to adopt solar permitting best practices. Vote Solar recently launched a beta-version of Project Permit, an interactive website that catalogs and scores municipal permitting practices. Vote Solar would love feedback on the beta site. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with comments or suggestions.
The site incorporates data from the National Solar Permitting Database and produces a score for each municipality based on nine solar permitting best practices. The website will include an education center with resources to empower citizens to streamline permitting practices in their communities.
TAKE ACTION: How does your community rank?
Check out http://www.projectpermit.org/ and see how your community’s solar permitting practices are ranked. Then contact your Mayor and let them know how they can improve permitting in your city. If you don’t see information for your city, help collect the data here.
