What is the typology of the hotel today? It has become a uni que hybrid that has morphosized over time where it is not simply a destina tion to sleep. It has become a series of layers that contribute towards th e experience that makes them iconic such as Las Vegas strip and “Burj Al A rab” in Dubai. One critical angle that is rarely discussed is the demand o f energy at peak load and how that information determines the architectura l design. This is crucial in order to change our perspective towards devel opment especially because of our current economic climate and energy consu mption woes. With this in mind we take the challenge of re-creating a hote l envelope that responds to the peak loads with no reservations.Participan ts will: perform basic heat load calculations\; implement principles of he at load to better understand the relationship of enclosure\; explore the e nergy performance of the building\; and improve the design building enclos ures they design by using the principles and calculations presented in the workshop .
