Established in 1954, the nonprofit American Solar Energy Society (ASES) is the nation’s leading association of solar professionals & advocates. Our mission is to inspire an era of energy innovation and speed the transition to a sustainable energy economy. ASES is the U.S. Section of the International Solar Energy Society (ISES). We advance education, research and policy.
Leading for 59 years
ASES leads national efforts to increase the use of solar energy, energy efficiency and other sustainable technologies in the U.S. We publish the award-winning SOLAR TODAY magazine, organize and present the ASES National Solar Conference and lead the ASES National Solar Tour — the largest grassroots solar event in the world.
ASES has 59 years of research, including scientific papers from 43 National Solar Conferences, 17 volumes of Advances in Solar Energy, 26 years of Solar Today magazine articles and dozens of policy reports commissioned by ASES.
Changing how Americans think about solar
The American Solar Energy Society published the groundbreaking Green-Collar Jobs report which showed that renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors generate more than 9 million jobs and $1 trillion in annual revenue in the U.S. Another report, Tackling Climate Change in the U.S., demonstrated how renewable energy and energy efficiency can provide the carbon emissions reductions needed to mitigate climate change. ASES efforts have been highlighted by leading media outlets across the U.S. including: the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, NPR, Time, BusinessWeek, NBC, Fox News, San Jose Mercury News, Rocky Mountain News, and countless others.
Bringing the solar community together
ASES members across the nation — energy professionals and grassroots supporters – work together to help create a sustainable energy economy. We have regional chapters in 41 states and the District of Columbia, plus seven student chapters at colleges across the country. ASES constitutes the largest section of the International Solar Energy Society, so we’re a key part of a powerful, collaborative network. And our nine Technical Divisions, with academic and engineering members from all disciplines, serve as a clearing house for basic research across the all renewable-energy and energy-efficiency technologies.
The need for renewable energy is clear. Fossil fuels are putting the U.S. economy and environment at risk. Fuel costs are volatile. Pollution and climate change threaten our children’s future. Even the security of our nation is at risk as the U.S. continues to buy fuel from turbulent regions. The time for change is now.
Creating a sustainable energy economy
That’s why we’re asking for your help. Solar energy and energy efficiency are key to protecting the environment and growing the economy. They help tackle climate change and promote energy independence. But we urgently need your support to strengthen these important efforts. You can make a difference. Together, we can create a sustainable energy economy.
We invite you to join us.
