California Energy Commission

Energy Quest, hosted by the California Energy Commission, is a comprehensive educational Web site focused on energy resources for K-12 students and teachers. The site offers general information on energy, including sources, history, and efficiency, as well as energy in transportation and research and discoveries in energy. The site also features games, videos, lesson plans, activities, stories, science fair project resources, and links to many other sites for energy education.

The Energy Commission also sponsors a statewide energy art calendar contest, which is held each spring for students in grades 3-8.

Queensland Sustainable Energy Industry Development Group

Queensland Sustainable Energy Industry Development Group (QSEIDG) is committed to ensuring that high quality, relevant education and training activities in renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency are available to all Queenslanders at all levels. To encourage schools to explore the fundamental principles that underpin sustainable energy, QSEIDG has collated a set of five booklets which contain hands-on science activities, background information for teachers and a list of additional web-based resources that provide ideas for assignments and further hands-on activities.

Solar Schoolhouse (Rahus Institute)

provides workshops, curriculum, and hands-on kits for teachers wishing to introduce solar energy education in the classroom. has just released its 14-minute educational DVD “Clean Energy News: Buying a Solar Electric System”, which answers many of the questions typically posed by homeowners interested in buying a (PV) system. This DVD is well suited as an instructional guide for teachers.

Produced by a team of experienced solar industry and media professionals, the DVD explains the nuts and bolts of how a PV system works. It also highlights the economic and environmental benefits, financial incentives, system performance, installation details of photovoltaics and demystifies the technology for the average homeowner. Excellence in Green Building Curricula: Recognition Awards & Incentive Grants

To advance green building education, USGBC announces new awards and grants that honor and foster innovative courses and programs. Submissions and proposals for Excellence in Green Building Curriculum Recognition Awards and Incentive Grants are due March 17, 2008.

Both awards and grants are available in three categories: pre-K to 12; community and technical college two-year programs; and college and university programs. Grant and award recipients will be featured on USGBC’s Web site and showcased at the Greenbuild 2008 International Conference & Expo, for which one representative from each winning organization will receive free registration.
