An Example for Us All: Iceland

Iceland has some very interesting geologic features within the country setting it apart from every other country. Iceland is a country that powers itself 100% renewably. This country isn’t focused on the typical renewable energy sources seen around the world like solar and wind. Instead, Iceland powers itself 75% through hydro power and 25% through geothermal. The volcanic roots of Iceland allow for the ample amounts of geothermal energy to be produced. A whooping 87% of water heating also comes from these geothermal sources. For their primary energy needs, they still need about 19% of energy coming from fossil fuels, but their electricity itself is 100% renewable.
