Renewable Fuels and Sustainable Transportation (RFST) Division Annual Meeting

Members of the Renewable Fuels and Sustainable Transportation (RFST) Division conducted their annual meeting during the upcoming Annual Solar Conference on Monday, July 9, 12:30pm to 1:30pm.
Main meeting tasks were:
1. Main task to fill out sheet for officers. Nominate names for officers.
2. RFST division will have a rep on the ASES board. Need two nominations. One reviewer goes to San Diego as a traveling reviewer who will read all papers from all divisions.
The second is an at-home reviewer who just reads RFST related papers.
3. Form proposals for next year.
4. Discuss parameters of this division.

Officers and Division technical reviewers are as follows:
Steve Heckeroth was nominated to continue as division chair.
Vice Chair: Jeff Lyng (who is also vice chair of solar electric)
Secretary: John Rockhold will continue in that position
Newsletter: Janice Arnold will make division quarterly reports to Becky

Ron Swensen will be RFST division traveling tech reviewer
George Renoldson & David Soule will be our division stay @ home reviewers.
Nathan Mitten has agreed to stand for nomination as RFST division Board representative
Nancy Hazard has declined so we need at least 1 more nomination to have an election. Please send your nomination to Becky ASAP at bchowe@ases.org

People interested in proposing forums for next year might include Steve, Ron, Andy Schoenburg & Nathan Mitten.

This year’s RFST sponsored forums at the Cleveland conference included:
Traction Batteries Forum, Homegrown Biofuels, Renewable Conversions and Hydrogen sessions as well as the Emerging Transportation Plenary. Topics in our division definitely include Peak Oil, Electric Vehicles and other innovative emerging transportation technologies.

We feel it is important to continue discussion on how we will define “clean renewable fuels” included in our mission statement?

Ron Swenson and David Soule have been asked to work together on committee to analyze data on ethanol, biofuels, hydrogen, etc.  Jeff Lyng will join them to help with ROI calculations. We want to consider all viable sustainable transportation technologies scientifically. We all agree that meeting sustainability criteria should be objectively analyzed.

WE are looking forward to ASES’s planned website database of technical information from past proceedings and Solar Today articles that will be researchable by subject, author or year of creation.
