Dr. Eric Martinot has worked in renewable energy for 25 years and is an internationally recognized scholar, writer, and teacher on the subject. He is report author of the pioneering REN21 Renewables Global Futures Report, and was lead author from 2005-2010 of the REN21 Renewables Global Status Report, an annual synthesis of markets and policies. He is currently senior research director with the Institute for Sustainable Energy Policies in Tokyo, where he follows market and policy developments in Asia. He maintains a research affiliation with the Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Association and previously lived in Beijing for three years as senior visiting scholar at Tsinghua University. He was formerly a senior energy specialist with the World Bank/Global Environment Facility in Washington DC, responsible for the renewable energy program. He was also formerly an adjunct professor of public policy at the University of Maryland, and has written 70 publications on sustainable energy since 1990. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley and a B.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
