Hi Seth,

great article, really conveys the sense of what's going on at SEI. they really have grown. i was up there two winters ago visiting with old friend Johnny Weiss.
i am heading into my 4th year here in Crestone with
CRESTONE SOLAR SCHOOL, a tiny startup (after years on Boulder with Colorado Sunworks).
i wonder if you have any ideas as to what niche might be missing at SEI, we are still building CSS -mostly on solar thermal, go here to see:

I am considering the progrom either in colorado, or there is one here in austin. It is a week long, and runs about 1300,with the test at the end.In comparison, what dose the total online and handson course run, and dose it seem tbe worth the cost,in your opionion?

SEI rocks

I did a work trade program with them a few years ago, great people and a great organization. The education I got, with a little help from them, got me get a gig installing for Sun Light & Power in Berkeley, CA for a year. But my back just wouldn't agree with the job after a year. Now I'm trying to blend art with my passion for renewable energy at www.green-tech-art.com. But in any case, Solar Today and SEI are definitely a great combination. I'm glad to seem them highlighted here.

Great article about SEI. I did a the work-trade program there a few years ago, and it was a very rewarding and valuable experience. Anyone interested in breaking into the renewable energy field should definitely look into them.

Finding a program

First, SEI lists dates and prices for all its courses on its website, solarenergy.org. As for finding a good course in Chicago (or anywhere), we listed programs across the country in the Get Started issue -- see solartoday-digital.org/solartoday/200910#pg46

SEI is a great place to learn

I was there 3 weeks for training over last summer. The courses are very intense and you do learn allot. Their lab site is first rate and the instructors know solar. If you are thinking about getting into the field I would definitely recommend to go to SEI and soak up all you can learn from them.
