Daily dose of solar news and Q&As

A new study released by the German Aerospace Center shows how the United States can cut greenhouse gas emissions 85 percent by 2050, using off-the-shelf non-nuclear technologies.

Commissioned by Greenpeace and the European Renewable Energy Council, the Energy (R)evolution study says U.S. emissions can be slashed 23 percent by 2020.

The study posed four straightforward questions:

1. Is it possible, using currently available technologies, to cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions worldwide to the levels needed to prevent the worst effects of global warming?

2. Can we do it while also achieving strong economic growth?

3. Since the dangers of nuclear waste and proliferation pose similar existential threats to humanity as global warming itself, can we also phase out all nuclear power by 2050?

4. Can we do it here in the United States?

The answer, from some of the world's top energy experts at the German Aerospace Center (Germany's counterpart to National Aeronautics and Space Administration), is a resounding yes on all counts.
