Outdoor Hands-On and Solar Demonstrations at SOLAR 2008
10:00am - 5:00pm, Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4
Here's a rare opportunity to discover how the sun's free energy is instantly transformed into free electricity, hot water, hot and cool air, indoor lighting, and even wind power!
Join the volunteers from the San Diego Renewable Energy Society in the outside display area at the back of the convention hall for a hands-on demonstraton of working prototypes and existing renewable energy products that demonstrate the basic principals of solar energy and wind conversion, and explain the cost savings, plus ease of use.
Even if our annual "May Grey" clouds the morning sky, you'll still be able to feel some of the solar heat from three types of solar concentrators, a working solar water heater and solar forced air heater, solar heating drapes, and a few other renewable energy surprises.
You'll also see how reflective panels can "daylight" dark indoor spaces, or passively cool buildings (like your home), while high temperatures can be generated with highly absorptive surfaces.
You can also talk to the renewable energy experts from the non-profit California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE), administrators for millions of dollars of state funds for various solar initiative programs. California has one of the most progressive solar funding programs in the nation.
