2007 12th Annual National Solar Tour , A Great Success!

Over 100,000 people came out to see what’s available for saving energy and making clean and reliable renewable energy for homes and buildings. The 12th annual National Solar Tour was held October 6th this year, the first Saturday of National Energy Awareness Month. Testimonials show that many have installed or are about to install solar renewable energy as a direct result of tour visits, proving there is no substitute for first hand experience

While the final survey results will be tabulated in January, it is not too early to share some of the exciting results. Tours attract homeowners who are looking for clean and sustainable energy solutions to their heating and electrical needs.

While solutions for every family can be found on tours, the audience is generally educated, 80% with a college degree, and 50% with household income in excess of $75,000.  Most, (75%) have never attended a solar, green-building or similar tour before indicating this event is effective at reaching a broad segment of homeowners (88%) from the general population

Within the next two years, half the surveyed tour guests plan to remodel/retrofit their residence with sustainable energy (renewable energy or energy efficiency) technologies.  More that 25% are in the market for a new house and are convinced of the need for energy efficiency and renewable energy.

The number one reason 55% of surveyed homeowner tour hosts installed clean energy technologies match the top reason 32% of tour guests gave for visiting tours. Sustainable energy technologies are the solution for addressing global warming; ahead of cost savings, energy security, and improved comfort by a large margin.

Planning for the 2008 tour is underway. We anticipate tours in all 50 states with attendance in excess of 100,000. Organizations that promote sustainable building technology and energy awareness are encouraged to participate. Details can be found at www.NationalSolarTour.org
