The Sustainable Transportation Division had successful meetings at the 2013 ASES National Solar Conference and is planning for an even better conference in 2014.

For the April conference in Baltimore, Md., the division organized the annual Sustainable Transportation Plenary and heard from three fantastic speakers. They covered recent developments in personal rapid transport and policy matters affecting electric vehicles.

We heard a passionate explanation of the state of the electric vehicle marketplace. The conference conducted several sessions addressing the current state, and near future, of biofuels.

The conference tradeshow included a tremendous display of electric vehicles from local dealerships. On public day the conference hosted an EV Ride and Drive, with cars provided by members of the Electric Vehicle Association of Greater Washington, D.C.

For the 2013–14 year, the division will focus on three key initiatives:

  1. Find and implement a unified ASES sustainable transportation news feed that allows for a discussion function.
  2. Encourage ASES chapters to include more transportation-related locations on the 2013 ASES National Solar Tour. Find ways to support the chapters in this effort to leverage the many solar charging stations and other exciting sustainable transportation solutions implemented across the country.
  3. Publish four case studies highlighting recent sustainable transportation projects, to inspire our members to further develop such projects.

We invite you to get active in our division and help us promote sustainable transportation across the country.
