SCHEDULE
Half to full-time volunteer, located at ASES national headquarters in Boulder, Colorado. Position has a start date of February 11 and runs until May 10, 2013.

SUMMARY
The Assistant Conference Director assists the Conference Director with a wide range of duties related to producing Solar 2013. This position is particularly key in maintaining a constant flow of information between the local, national and technical planning committees and ensuring that accurate reporting regarding financials and logistical tracking is up to date. This position is based at the ASES office in Boulder, CO and reports to the Conference Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conference Program planning, including Plenaries, Forums, and Technical Sessions
• Special Event coordination including lunches, receptions, and the Awards Banquet
• Assisting the Expo Manager with Mapping, Invoicing and Sponsor Fulfillment
• Interfacing with Facilities personnel at the Baltimore Convention Center & Hyatt Regency
• Manage the awards process in conjunction with the Awards Committee
• Support the Technical Divisions and Chapters Caucuse Meetings during the conference
• Assist with the production of the Event Program and Expo Map
• A wide range of other miscellaneous tasks involved in putting on a major national conference

QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty well and with a high level of professionalism. It is expected that the individual will have a high level of creativity and understanding of non-profit organizations. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Demonstrated project management skill and experience.
• Demonstrated problem solving skill and experience, including the ability to apply independent judgment, discretion and initiative to addressing problems and developing solutions.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Oral communications skill in speaking clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations and in responding to inquiries in a professional manner.
• Skill in interacting and communicating with individuals at all levels of the organization.
• Skill in working collaboratively with others in a team environment.

BUSINESS SKILLS
• Demonstrated mastery of MS Office.
• Demonstrated mastery of Internet tools.
• Demonstrated mastery of effective time-management techniques.
• Capacity to follow up on tasks with minimal direct supervision.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Holds a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with several years experience in project and/or event management in a business or academic environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Knowledge of renewable energy field.
• Prior experience with a nonprofit organization.
• Prior experience with meeting or conference organizing at the national level.
• Website strategy experience and design capability.
• Demonstrated skill in vendor relations ― both written and oral.
• Understanding of facilities and/or A/V needs for a large meeting or conference.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and skill in relationship and partnership building.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical requirements are typical of those required for an administrative position. On occasion may need to lift 10-40 pounds. Some travel may be required, depending on volunteer’s availability.

COMPENSATION
Volunteer will qualify for free Full Conference Registration to Solar 2013, travel to and from Baltimore, MD, and hotel accommodations from April 15-21. Excellent performance may qualify individual for future employment opportunities with ASES.

Denver Area: Toward Low Cost Solar Water Heaters

Solar water heating means free hot water for many years, yet the up front costs are currently a barrier to widespread adoption of this technology.

Join CRES on November 15th when Jay Burch relates recent progress and plans for the future as this presentation lays out potential pathways to radically reducing the cost of solar water heaters (SWHs) for single-family residential applications. In order to attain significant market penetration, the simple payback must be reduced to 7 years or less.

Jay Burch, Ph.D. is senior physicist at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, with over 30 years experience in the areas of modeling and measurement of thermal systems. His main research area is the reconciliation of thermal simulation models with measurements, for both buildings and solar hot water systems.

He has managed the research in the Solar Heating and Cooling Program since 1995, including the U.S. Department of Energy initiative supporting industry-led development of low-cost polymer-based solar water heaters which can be installed under $3000. This project resulted in market entry of two low-cost solar water heaters. He is now leading a recently-started NREL-industry collaboration for ultra-low-cost solar water heaters, with goal of an installed system cost of under $1000 without rebates, excluding uncontrollable soft costs.

The Denver Energy Challenge is a free energy program provided by the City and County of Denver and is available to help residents and businesses cut energy waste, while saving money and increasing indoor comfort and air quality. Free energy advisors are provided along with access to exclusive rebates and low-cost loans which can also finance solar when you participate.

Northern Colorado: Financing Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy

NCRES’ next program is Tuesday, November 13th: Financing Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for the Home: ENERGY STAR Mortgages, PowerSaver Loans & Refinancing

How do I pay for this? The financing of home energy efficiency improvements or adding renewable energy systems has been a major challenge to homeowners achieving their goals.  Stephen Ponce-Pore of the Bank of Colorado will demonstrate financing options for making these improvements for existing homeowners, via refinancing, as well as new home mortgages.  Come learn about your options for increasing the comfort and reducing the operating costs of your home.

At the Bank of Colorado, Stephen initiated the development of the Colorado ENERGY STAR Mortgage, which formed a partnership with the Governor’s Energy Office and Colorado ENERGY STAR Homes to provide reduced mortgage rates to homeowners that renovate their homes for energy efficiency and for the buyers of new ENERGY STAR Homes.  He recently led the bank in its successful bid to become the only Colorado based bank to offer the new FHA PowerSaver Loan.

DUCRES: 24 Hours of Reality and the Role of Renewable Energy

Mark your calendars for the next DUCRES general meeting and speaker event on November 14th from 7:30 – 9:00 PM.

David Bowden, a former President of CRES, will speak to DUCRES about how renewable energy projects and policies can help to combat the increasing impacts of global climate change. Mr. Bowden is a passionate renewable energy advocate with a background in Television editing and production including PBS NewsHour. Our November 14th meeting coincides with a 24 hour global webcast from former Vice President Al Gore called 24 Hours of Reality: The Dirtiest Weather Report. The webcast plans to demonstrate how global climate change and extreme weather are affecting our lives and our planet. It seems the timing of this webcast is perfect in light of Hurricane Sandy.
