Sonnenschein Sunday Tour of Alternative Homes

Tour Description: The Global Village Institute of Appropriate Technology will be offering a tour of homes in Middle Tennessee on June 3 from 11 am to 5 pm in conjunction with the June 1-3 Sonnenschein Green Power Festival.  The festival and tour are free to the public!  The festival will have 25 speakers on Green Power, 2 solar powered music stages, an alternative fuel expo and the tour will visit 10 homes showcasing off-grid, grid-tie, wind power, passive solar, natural construction, solar hot water, biofuels and more!

Tour Description: The Tyner Center was designed to serve as a gateway to the Air Station Prairie and as an example of how man-made structures can harmonize with the environment.
We will tour this LEED Platinum rated building and receive first-hand information on the SolarSave Roofing Tile System used there, from Rosario Milana, architect and solar integrator from Chicago's Green Energy Collaborative.  We will also have on hand other installers to show the related technology used in the building.  This will be a great opportunity to see the results of a project that was fully integrated to produce LEED Gold results.

Washington Days Farm & Garden Tour: Solar & Wind Energy, Land Conservation

Tour Description: Example of lighter footprint on our earth. 14 year proof of the effectiveness of passive solar design, super insulation, re-used building materials, off grid solar & wind power for renewable electricity, domestic hot water & radiant floor heat.  Plans for land conservancy with trees & wildlife considered equally.  American Chestnuts already added; & honeybees -- vital pollinators, aid the home grown organic food. An education stop for local energy answers, & vision. 
Hand outs, & other data to write down about an instant & continuing reduction in carbon emissions, avoidance of black-outs; many of the steps save money, all pay back the investments by the rewards of peace of mind, of benefiting one's family, community & the future. How much are our local Conservation Committee & Land & Lakes Associations contributing, now? 
No use of tobacco, alcohol or “recreational drugs” on the property, (insurance stipulation).  Dogs are welcome, but leave them in the car with open windows, or keep them leashed, & outside the buildings unless hand carried, or after verbal agreement.
