ASES National Solar Tour Demographics

At 30% continued annual growth rate, we anticipate attendance at the 2007 12th annual National Solar Tour to reach 115,000.


The following charts provide a limited sample from attendees of the 11th annual ASES National Solar Tour.  Survey responses were received from 36 out of 44 states that included tours in 2006.  Surveys were sent only to attendees who provided an e-mail address at the tour they attended.   

  • 80% of attendees have a college or graduate degree

 

  • 61% of National Solar Tour attendees have a household income over $60,000

  • 50% of National Solar Tour attendees have a household income over $75,000

  • 49% were very likely or definitely planning to install RE/EE before attending a tour

    • Many attend tours to find what products, services and incentives are available in their area
       

  • 78% were very likely or definitely planning to install RE/EE after attending a tour

    • Attendees learn about renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, how they work, what they cost and why they make sense

    • The 24 percentage point increase from 'before' to 'after' shows that tours are educational and effective at promoting technologies for a sustainable energy economy

  • 26% plan to retrofit a current residence with renewable energy or energy efficiency technologies within one year, 38% within 2 years

  • 26% of surveyed attendees plan to move within 2 years

  • Attendees learn the importance of energy efficiency and renewable energy

  • Attendees are inspired by home and building owners who supply/supplement their home power needs from the sun, wind, and other renewable sources

  • Tours increase demand for energy efficient and renewable energy homes and buildings

  • American Solar Energy Society programs like the National Solar Tour are moving the United States toward a sustainable energy economy.  Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Technologies demonstrated on tours:

    • Reduce carbon emissions

    • Reduce demand for fossil fuels

    • Reduce building operating expenses

    • Improve the indoor environment and benefit local communities.
