Wind Turbines Have No Effect on Home Property Values

windturbineWind projects with operating turbines generally have no measureable impacts on nearby property values, according to a new study published by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the University of Connecticut. “Relationship between Wind Turbines and Residential Property Values in Massachusetts” analyzed more than 122,000 home sales near 26 wind facilities in densely populated Massachusetts. The report confirms two previously published studies reaching a similar conclusion.

Supported by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, the study investigated not only the possible impacts from wind turbines, but also the potential impacts from other environmental features and found strong evidence that highways, major roads, electricity transmission lines, open space and beaches impact property values — but uncovered no similar impacts from wind turbines.
